Character development - You’re doing it right.

Regina is and always will be one of my favorite characters on the show and the reason being is that her character is so layered and Lana plays the pain and the tragedy in her life so well. But not only that, the writers are wonderful and have made her character relatable. I think she is so relatable because Lana plays her with such truth and she doesn’t hold back at all. Throughout everything she has only ever wanted love and I think many people can relate to the constant battle with ourselves that Regina goes through.
Anyway, before I lose my point. This was the moment that sold it for me and I realized how good the writers were in developing their characters and also how well Lana plays this role. Everyone knows she enjoys magic, Regina said herself she didn’t want to touch magic again because she loved it and right here you can see how much she is enjoying it but then the smile wipes completely off of her face as if she is angry at herself for giving into it and feeling the power that magic has to offer. Henry is standing right beside her and she takes the smile right off of her face. And that to me, makes me want to cry happy and sad tears all at the same time. Her character has come so far over the episodes as she has tried to redeem herself and all for the love of her son. She has seen herself slowly turning into the one person she didn’t want to become and the very thought of it makes her sad. I think she thinks of her mother when she uses magic and sees her mother in herself. It’s the very small details that really sell it for me and that’s one thing Lana does well in playing Regina. I always notice the small details, the facial expressions and the background shots.
I applaud Lana for playing such a complicated and beautiful character and I applaud this show for being what it is. All the characters are wonderful, along with the Actors/Actresses.

“The place is looking dusty, Rumple… You should get a new girl”

I know it’s plain cruel considering what she just told him, but the wait she rolls her eyes, then sweeps the table and the way she tells him that, I find it very “her”
