Technically Regina is not the Evil Queen yet, but this is a key moment in her eventual turn. The moment she saves the life of the girl who later on (unwittingly) ruins hers. For me the most interesting relationship on the entire show is theirs - Regina starts off saving Snow White, only to want to destroy her later on.

It’s tragic to think about this scene in contrast with the bigger picture because of how shattered their relationship is now, but on its own this scene makes me smile every single time I watch it. The core of Regina’s story revolves around love, whether she’s lost it or is holding it very delicately in her hands. Snow came into Regina’s life while she was facing conflicts but at the same time enveloped in love from her feelings for Daniel. She had the strength to let the power of her true love begin to mend the raw open wounds she so obviously had locked away for years. So when Snow came along she just wanted to give the love and show us that she was a heroine. This was one of those moments where I saw so much of myself in her that it scared me… It scared me, it comforted me, and made me feel so much joy and light that it all just overflowed. She loved Snow, just like she loves Henry now, and these fleeting moments of happiness give me hope.
